What a weekend!!!! Cold and rainy before and during the weekend however, Sunday was clear (and cold).
Sat around with Josh most of the day Saturday watching the red flags from FastCrash and trying to keep from freezing. Not much went on except Alex from BigHeadz showed up and pitted with us in a nice garage!!.
Practice 1 on Sunday - Alex and I were both in the same classes so we went out for the first practice together. Only problem is we were late getting out and only got in two laps. Wouldn't be bad except I had seen the track 3 to 4 years ago for 2 laps and Alex never had. Could only manage a 1:56 on those two laps and was pretty depressed about that.
Practice 2 on Sunday - Got out at the start of the practice and felt alot better getting in five laps. Only problem was that Shaun from RaceTech was working on my suspension and I forgot to come in after a lap and finally remembered after three laps. Took a couple clicks out of the rebound and the bike HOOKED UP!!! night and day difference. Did do alot better on lap times (1:51s) and was learning the track alittle bit. Form sucked but at least I stayed on the track the whole time!!!
Race 7 (A Superstock Novice) - By now, all races were 4 laps long (due to a fatal accident in race 2a (RIP Joe Lopez and ride forever dude) so they were really short races. Got a fairly good start however, still not twisting th throttle like I should so ended finished 8th but with a fastest lap of 1:46 so I was getting there (though still a wuss).
Race 9 (A Superbike Novice) was pretty much a repeat of race 7. Got a good start, didn't get on the throttle as much as I should have and got passed by a few people again. Did manage to make a pass going into turn 3 and then actually made up a little time on the two ahead of me. Finished 6th with a fastest lap of 1:45 and finally got the hang of a couple corners right before the finish. Maybe if it would have been a normal 6 lap race, might even have caught some people.
All in all a good weekend. Friends from KatRiders showed up (Dennis and Linda) and they froze along with the rest of us. Got to help Josh with his bike along with the Workman Racing gang and Ti2TT. Watched Alex's bike smoke out the garage but heard it's not terminal. Sad weekend too in that a fellow racer lost his life to an unfortunate accident but hopefully something good will finally happen to that part of the track.
Thanks to Josh for coming back and dragging my old arse up there, Ti2TT for supporting me, Lees Cycle for setting up the forks and maybe even more, Micky Granna for being there, Micky you are one hell of a good friend and thanks for the SoCalTrackDays support!!! My main parts source and sponsor MoPowerSports (Jimmy, all this stuff works fine it's me thats slow) and the whole Workman family for putting up with me and feeding me!!! Also thanks to Sidi, Andy and ACT leathers (they hold up real well..don't ask) Pazzo levers, Scorpion Helmets and Bridgestone for making sticky arse tires!!!
Oh and thanks Alex for the burgers on Saturday and the Gorilla Farts Saturday night.
