Got to Vegas (Thanks Sin for putting up with us all weekend) on Thursday night so BearKat and I could get a good pit location on Friday. We had to have room for 6 BigHeadz Racers and a couple Ti2TT racers with us. Noting really to report except that it rained most of Thursday night and Friday so we just hung out at the track most of the time.
Saturday we got a late start and I barely made it out for the first practice. Didn't go super fast as I was trying to get some braking markers down and relearn the track. Ran there in November but it's always good to see it again at a slower pace. Second practice was much better as the track wasn't as green from the rain and it was completely dry. Still didn't push it hard as I wanted to get my braking points refined.
Sunday and I have the first race (Superstock A). Got an ok start (nothing to brag about) and went into turn 1 in fifth. By turn 3 I had passed one rider and by turn 7 (there are 9~10 turns at Vegas) I passed another rider. My teammate Doug passed me on the next lap and another (Alex) had crashed out one the first lap because of another rider falling right ahead of him. I tried to keep up with Doug but he was really moving and ended up about 4 seconds behind him in an eight lap race. Wonder of wonders I actually ended up coming in third and even got a little trophy for it.
Second race was Formula One (race what ya brung) and BearKat and I are gridded side by side. Bear got a much better start (mine sucked this day) and led me into turn one. We go through turn four and Bear is leaned so far over you can't see where the bike ends and the pavement starts. Opps, too much lean and Bear lowsides out. All I see is the bike sliding and Bear tumbling alittle. Kept going but every time I came around that turn Bears bike was right where I look to enter the turn and it's gets ya thinking. Anyhow, started 6th and ended up 5th in that race.
Final race of the day (Superbike A) and I'm gridded 7th. Got a good start but so did everyone else. I pass one rider and set my sights on another rider. We battle for four laps with me outbraking her in every corner but her newer R1 was pulling me a little in the straights. I try and pass her about 5 or 6 times in the corners but she turns into me (I'm wheel to wheel with her) and since I'm not willing to crash with her I drop back each time. I guess since I had passed her in the other two races and beat her she figured I wasn't going to again. Funny thing is, I was faster than her and she held me up in the last race. Next time in Vegas, I won't be so worried about crashing. Ended up 6th in this race.
Thanks to my main sponsors, MoPowerSports, Ti2TT, Lees Cycle Racing, SoCalTrackDays, Scorpion EXO, Bridgestone, Sidi, Pazzo, PitBull, LP and Hotbodies for giving me fantastic support and equipment.
